The Spit Bucket is a zine celebrating the wonderful responses made by artists to the sport of boxing. We welcome submissions from prose writers, poets and visual artists of all forms. See below for submission guidelines.
One of the few new joys in boxing has been the emergence of the brilliant The Spit Bucket – Donald McRae.
Please support: If you enjoy reading/looking at our zine then please consider donating to The Ringside Charitable Trust as they aim to open the UK’s first residential care home for ex boxers.
Submission guidelines:
- Visual art – Think collage, illustrations, photos of sculpture, line drawings. All work to be formatted as A5-portrait (preferably) and in black and white only. Please include titles for your work and the media used for making, and submit your work as a jpeg file.
- Prose – Up to 900 words. (If you have a proposal of up to 1500 words then please contact us in advance.)
- Poetry – Up to 26 lines – We are particularly interested in poetry that experiments and pushes visual boundaries.
- We would prefer all submissions to be previously unpublished, though you may want to share work with us from an upcoming book and that, of course, is fine.
Please send all submissions (as separate documents and not in the body of an email), along with a 25-word contributor’s bio to: thespitbucketzine@gmail.com
Deadline for issue 8: 30th January 2026
We are unable to offer any payment to contributors. The zine will remain free to ensure it remains as accessible as possible. Readers will instead be asked to consider donating to The Ringside Charitable Trust.
