‘Boxing Nostalgia – The Good, The Bad and The Weird’ is a collection of articles by Alex Daley, originally published in Boxing News.
Between October 2015 and October 2018 Alex Daley authored a regular column for Boxing News, in which he compiled notes and stories about British boxing’s colourful past. This book is full of brilliantly illuminating and surprising stories of British boxers, their trainers and the venues where they made their names.
I should maybe have paced myself with this book as the articles are only a couple of pages long, and I raced through the 132 essays a bit too quickly, which is never the best way to let the information sink in. I do have firm memories of reading about the campaign to erect a boxing memorial in Portsmouth, and the remarkable pioneer of women’s boxing, Barbara Buttrick.
